About SGPA and CGPA

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): SGPA is the average of grade points obtained in all the subjects in a semester.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): CGPA is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the semesters completed by a student.

Importance: CGPA provides a comprehensive overview of a student's academic performance across multiple semesters, making it a valuable metric for academic evaluation and career opportunities.

Your semester GPA tells you how a single term went. Your CGPA tells the bigger story — the one that shows up on transcripts, job applications, and postgraduate admission forms. If you have your SGPA figures from multiple semesters and need to work out what your overall CGPA actually is, this converter does that calculation for you instantly. It supports both a Simple Average for semesters with equal credit loads and a Weighted Average for semesters where credit hours differ, so the result you get reflects how your institution actually calculates cumulative performance rather than just an approximate figure.

Formulas Used:

Simple Average: CGPA = Sum of all SGPAs ÷ Total Number of Semesters

Weighted Average: CGPA = Sum of (SGPA × Credits for each semester) ÷ Sum of Total Credits

Equivalent Percentage: CGPA × 9.5

The weighted formula gives a more accurate CGPA when different semesters carried different credit loads, which is the case for most students across a full degree program.

How to Use the SGPA to CGPA Converter

The process is flexible enough to handle everything from two semesters to a full eight-semester degree:

  • Choose Your Calculation Method: Select Simple Average if all your semesters carried equal credit hours, or Weighted Average if the credit load varied across semesters. The credits input field appears automatically when you switch to Weighted Average mode.
  • Enter Your Semester Details: The converter starts with two semester rows by default. Enter the SGPA for each semester in the corresponding field. If you are using Weighted Average, also enter the credit hours for that semester alongside the SGPA.
  • Add More Semesters as Needed: Click Add Semester to include additional terms. There is no limit on how many semesters you can add, so the tool works whether you are halfway through your degree or calculating your final cumulative figure at the end.
  • Click Calculate CGPA: Your CGPA appears in the result card along with the equivalent percentage calculated using the standard CGPA × 9.5 formula. For example, SGPAs of 8.75 and 9.00 on Simple Average give a CGPA of 8.88 and a percentage of 84.31%.
  • Remove Semesters if Needed: Any semester beyond the initial two can be removed using the X button next to that row. The calculation updates automatically with whatever remains.

Why Use the SGPA to CGPA Converter Online?

  • Two Calculation Modes for Real Accuracy: Most basic converters only offer a simple average, which is fine when credit hours are equal but gives a misleading result the moment they are not. The Weighted Average mode here accounts for credit differences properly, so students with uneven semester loads get a CGPA that actually matches what their university would calculate.
  • Unlimited Semester Support: Whether you need to combine two semesters or ten, you can keep adding rows without any restriction. The tool scales to whatever your academic record requires without any workaround.
  • Percentage Conversion Included: Once your CGPA is calculated, the equivalent percentage using the standard 9.5 conversion factor is shown in the same result. That means you do not need to open a separate tool just to get the percentage figure — it is all in one place.
  • Dynamic and Responsive Layout: Semester rows can be added or removed freely and the numbering updates on its own each time, keeping the interface clean and easy to follow even when you are working through a long list of semesters.
  • No Setup Required: The converter works directly in your browser with no registration, no downloads, and no cost. Open it on any device and you are ready to start entering your figures immediately.

Who Is This Tool Built For?

Any student who tracks academic performance across semesters will find this useful, but it is particularly valuable for those preparing documents that require a cumulative GPA — university transfer applications, postgraduate admissions, scholarship submissions, and job applications where academic records are part of the evaluation. It is also helpful for students who simply want to monitor where their overall CGPA stands at any point during their degree and understand how a stronger or weaker semester might shift the final figure.
